This paper discusses procedures encountered by child victims of domestic violence who appear in criminal court proceedings in the United States and finds that these children suffer short-term stress and possible long-term trauma.
Abstract
It considers long- and short-term stress factors and identifies information gaps. Suggestions for court reform are offered which can provide a less psychologically stressful situation for the child victim without interfering with the defendant's constitutional rights. Eleven references are included. (Author abstract modified)
