It defines key terms and delineates the principal illicit substances, both natural (cannabis, opiates) and synthetic (LSD, amphetamines) in terms of their origin and production. Drug smuggling and trafficking techniques are illustrated, showing concealment strategies in various types of vehicles, packaging in mail parcels and luggage, as well as concealment on the body, in spray cans, cigarette packs, and other containers. Specific pusher activities are also explained, noting the use of certain locales for drug trading, pushers' reluctance to carry large amounts of illicit drugs with them, and the use of intermediaries and other avenues of delivery. Much attention is paid to the organized international drug trade originating in Southeast Asia, the Near East, and South America. The estimated number of West German consumers of hard drugs is cited at between 60,000 and 80,000. Photographs are supplied.
