A collection of Dutch articles is devoted to victimology and victimization of various types.
Abstract
The emphasis of the collection is placed on the importance of victimology in research on crime within a social context. The first, concrete victim-offender relationships, includes studies on the reactions of the Dutch public, especially victims, to the rapidly rising crime rates and development of criminal, civil, and extrajudicial procedures for victim compensation. A second group of articles is devoted to the emotional or functional relationship between offenders and victims. These articles include a comparison of traditional and feminist concepts of sexual violence and rape; a historical overview of the male-female power relationship within marriage; and a review of statistical studies on sexual violence against women. The third category of articles focuses on relationships between groups of offenders and victims. One study treats the importance of race, class, and nation in analyzing the concept of anonymity in victimology. Another discusses the role of victims of environmental crime (e.g., employees and consumers) in effecting public policy changes. A final article outlines the position of victimology within the field of criminology from a neo-Marxist perspective. Separate notes are supplied for each article. For individual articles, see NCJ 89194-89198.
