These guidelines explain the design principles, advantages, and disadvantages of electronic alarm systems and their components.
Abstract
The paper explains the basic concepts involved in point protection, area protection, and perimeter protection are explained. It discusses sound and vibration detection systems to provide point protection, and describes area protection by means of ultrasonic, audio, microwave, passive infrared, and photoelectric systems. Perimeter protection by means of foil tape, magnetic switches, dowel grids, mat switches, and door traps is explained. Control and reporting units, line security, and surveillance cameras are also covered. Standards and requirements covered include the Bank Protection Act, the standards of Underwriters Laboratories, and the guidelines of the Insurance Services Office. Photographs, diagrams, and a glossary of security terms are provided.
