During 1981-82, the South Carolina Parole and Community Corrections Board made progress toward meeting the mandates of the Community Corrections Act of 1981, which emphasized alternatives to imprisonment for nonviolent offenders as a means of reducing State prison overcrowding.
Abstract
The board was reorganized and established the Supervised Furlough program, implemented an intensive level of supervision, placed more emphasis on community corrections programs and better evaluation of client risks and needs through improved management methods, and added a computerized accounting and personnel system. The report gives additional information on field services and public information activities. It includes a statistical summary of parolees' and probationers' characteristics and board activities during the year. Tables and graphs are supplied.
