The article explores the social control mechanisms and socialization process of Yellowstone Park rangers and discusses the impact of these phenomena on ranger behavior.
Abstract
It was found that various control mechanisms are used by social control agents to direct ranger role development and to limit the discretionary judgments of rangers. As rangers progress in their socialization process, they begin to internalize the 'low key' enforcement policy and ranger role and gradually become social control agents themselves. Reference notes and about 40 references are included. (Author abstract modified)
