This report discusses and presents statistics on the incidence of rape in Iowa and in the Nation from 1966-80. A profile of the typical rapist is included.
Abstract
The report covers rape cases in Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota from 1966 to 1980 and rape cases by city size and in the 13 largest American cities in 1980. Also presented is the incidence of rape in five large Iowa cities. The age, criminal history, and race of rapists and noted, as is the extent of seasonal variation in the crime. The report cites the number of rapists arrested in the Nation between 1966-80 and the numbers arrested in Des Moines from 1977-82. Statistics also cover the number of rapists released pending trial in Iowa between 1977-78, the dispositions for rapists in the Nation, the time spent between arrest and court trial in Iowa during 1974-76, and the amount of time Iowa's rapists spend in prison, probation, and parole. Data tables, some graphs, footnotes, and four references are supplied.
