Abstract
The bureaus for which data and operations are presented include the Administrative Services Bureau, the Detective Bureau, the Patrol Bureau, the Traffic Bureau, and the Youth and Community Services Bureau. Several major projects were undertaken in 1982 to improve the overall capability of the department. A Joint Records Center data management computer system was installed late in 1982 and should be fully operational early in 1983. Patrol area boundaries were changed in November to permit more uniform patrol coverage of the city by squads and to reduce response times. In March, the use of a 'Notice to Appear' was begun in certain minor criminal matters in lieu of making an arrest and detaining the defendant in jail.
