The five unit-course covers (1) orientation and motivation, (2) legal issues (the growing demands of regulations, standards and court orders), (3) the AMA's Standards for Health Care in Jails, (4) surveying jail health care systems and measuring compliance, and (5) providing technical assistance to jails on effective use of existing community resources. A lesson plan is provided for each unit outlining the time allotted for each unit, its objectives, format for instruction, audiovisual aids (if any), suggested procedure for instruction, and the content information to be covered. Appendixes contain response situations to the AMA's Standards for Health Services in Jails (1981), awards of accreditation as of February 1982, the jail health care accreditation as of February 1982, the jail health care accreditation publications' list (1981), a sample annual statistical report form, a sample receiving screening form, response situations regarding inspection of health services, the U.S. Marshals Service audit format, and a list of agencies in the community.
