Generally, the incidence of crime is greater in Sydney than in country areas, although the differences between the two seem to be diminishing. Crime on the New South Wales north coast is increasing more rapidly than in nonmetropolitan areas as a whole. However, the rate of increase of crime on the north coast varies with the type of crime, with geographical area, and over time. As a result, it is difficult to identify general trends.
