This annual report of the South African police presents information on officer deaths in the line of duty, awards and commendations, personnel, recruitment, the reserve police force, training, police activities, buildings, transportation equipment, and extra-departmental activities.
Abstract
The number of posts and personnel is broken down into white and nonwhite officers, as is the number of officer terminations and categories of reasons for terminations. Applications received from whites, nonwhites, and women as a result of an intensive recruitment effort over the year are indicated by number. The personnel strength and activities of the reserve police force, including the junior reserve and female reservists, are discussed, followed by a listing of the number of persons who participated in various specified training courses over the year. Information on police activity focuses on crime in general, patrol units, the diamond and gold unit, the dog school, the South African Criminal Bureau, the Narcotics Bureau, and internal security. Information on extra-departmental activities covers manhours on behalf of other departments, the manning of government mortuaries, and the number of short-term prisoners under police control.
