During 1981 in Norway, the police closed the investigation of 131,300 crimes, an 8-percent increase over the previous year. More than 75 percent of the crimes investigated were larcenies, and about 77 percent of the crimes remained unsolved.
Abstract
Tables and graphs present statistics on crimes investigated, sanctions, and imprisonment in Norway in 1981. Information is provided about type of crime, police district, place of crime, and weekday and year of crime. Also given are number of accessories, police decision or recommendation, and number of charges. Data on sanctions include sanctions for crimes and misdemeanors except sanctions for misdemeanors against military legislation. Statistics on imprisonments cover new imprisonments as well as discharges and transfers between institutions, by prisoners' sex and type of sanction. The figures on the average number of prisoners and the total number of days in imprisonment are also calculated. A total of 84 tables are included. Appendixes list a description of crimes against the penal code, crimes against other acts than the penal code, and describe municipalities. Publications previously issued are listed.
