A carefully planned research program emphasizes cost reductions and efficiency. Goals of the current program are to satisfy new information needs, especially in the area of the sentencing, and to update automation research in the diverse information systems. The following categories are described: legislation, crime trends (particularly victimology), police affairs, justice administration, sentencing, and miscellaneous projects. In each category, a general introduction outlines directions of current research. Sections on specific research projects in progress and new research projects follow. Appendices contain a bibliography of internal and external publications.
