This volume updates a 1975 inventory of the existing trial court facilities in every Wisconsin county and compares existing courthouses with the standards set in the guidelines for the construction or renovation of trial court facilities (presented in volume 1).
Abstract
The first section presents an assessment sheet for each county courthouse. These sheets are summaries showing how each courthouse compares with the construction and renovation guidelines. The comparisons cover minimum life safety codes, barrier-free access for disabled persons, each area within the courthouse, and the extent to which special circulation routes have been established in the courthouse for members of the public, judges, jurors, and prisoners. The inventory questionnaire sent to each county includes requests for information about local trial court facilities and a means to rate those facilities. The evaluation focused on life safety, access for the handicapped, the site, and architectural, structural, electrical, heating and air-conditioning, and plumbing systems. Functional spaces are evaluated for size, location, noise level, lighting, heating, cooling, maintenance, privacy, security, and general atmosphere. Counties were also asked to provide, if available, copies of the floor plans for their courthouses.
