The paper empirically examines a procedure which uses both statistical decision theory and hypothesis testing and allows a determination of the best model for estimating behavioral relationships for a full sample and for subgroups of property crime occurrences in 94 New Jersey suburban communities of Philadelphia.
Abstract
Statistical studies in the social sciences often analyze a cross section of communities that are assumed to be homogeneous for certain characteristics. The purpose of the grouping in this New Jersey sample is to further understand the possible interjurisdictional mobility of urban criminals to commit crimes in the suburbs. Tables, formulas, and 15 references are supplied. (Author abstract modified)
