A total of 15 police package cars were tested, with 5 of these vehicles -- Chevrolet Impala (350-4V), Chevrolet Malibu (305-4V), Dodge Diplomat (318-4V), -- Ford LTD Crown Victoria S (351-VV), and Plymouth Grand Fury (318-4V) -- competing against the Michigan State Police specifications. In the evaluation, the vehicle dynamics score is the average time in seconds that the vehicle required to complete the 12 fastest laps of the pursuit course; the acceleration score is the time in seconds that the vehicle required to reach 100 mph; the brake deceleration score is the average deceleration rate in feet per second; the top speed is the maximum speed that the vehicle obtained; the ergonomics and communications score is the total point value assigned to the vehicle on the score sheet; and the fuel economy score is the city mileage estimate published by the Environmental Protection Agency in miles per gallon. Of the five cars competing against the Michigan State Police specifications, the Chevrolet Impala (350-4V) received the highest total score.
