These data tables describe the average values of merchandise recovered each time a shoplifter was apprehended in a supermarket, drug store, or discount store in 1982.
Abstract
The data tables also estimate total losses from shoplifting, the value of the merchandise according to the type of offender, the average number of items recovered, and the value range of the merchandise recovered. Further tables show the percentages of adults prosecuted, juveniles referred to police, dates and times of apprehensions, ages of shoplifters, categories of merchandise recovered, and methods of concealment. A form to be filled out by an apprehended shoplifter and an explanation of the data collection and analysis procedures used are supplied.
