In California from 1981 to 1982, there was a 4.3-percent decrease in total Index crimes, a 5.3-percent rate decrease in violent crimes, and a 4.2-percent decrease in property crimes.
Abstract
A 2.2-percent decrease occurred in total arrests, a 7.4-percent increase occurred in the number of adults under correctional supervision, and a 9.1-percent increase happened in the number of juveniles detained in secure facilities. In addition, a 13.5-percent increase occurred in total criminal justice agency expenditures reported. Tables, graphs, and some narrative present data on Index crimes, stolen and recovered property, arson, arrests, and adult corrections, the juvenile justice system, criminal justice agency expenditures and personnel, and citizens' complaints against peace officers. The appendix contains information on known data limitations and a criminal justice glossary.
