This packet of materials contains the April to August 1981 progress report for the San Francisco Family Violence Project accompanied by resources stemming from and used in the project.
Abstract
As of August 1981, the project had been active in providing domestic violence victim services; offender services; training programs for police, direct service providers, and medical personnel; public awareness programs on abuse of the elderly; and liaison with various groups and organizations concerned about domestic violence. A packet for a 1980 conference on family violence contains a listing of San Francisco resources for victims of domestic violence. A draft copy of the San Francisco police training curriculum on response to domestic violence contains learning goals and lesson outlines. Material from a training seminar for those providing legal services to battered women discusses how to make temporary restraining orders work in San Francisco. A manual in both English and Spanish instructs victims in how to obtain protective court orders, and a paper provides guidance on counseling the batterer. Other materials discuss the cycle theory of violence, issues in designing and implementing programs for male batterers, and how to deal with conflict without resorting to violence. A packet for a conference on abuse of the elderly is also included.
