NCJ Number
90554
Date Published
1974
Length
32 pages
Annotation
Intended primarily for correctional educators, this resource manual profiles just over 20 reading tests or assessment devices that can be used with adults.
Abstract
The format used is intended to give the user an overview of the various tests. This includes, in addition to the name of the publisher and the diagnostic or assessment test being described, (1) the author of the instrument or device, (2) learner groups for whom the device was designed and how it is to be administered, (3) a capsule of the scope of the instrument, (4) forms involved and time required for administration, (5) scoring techniques, (6) recordkeeping procedures, (7) general purpose of the device, (8) special training required for test administrators, (9) test validation (if any), and (10) cost and availability information. Many of the achievement tests were designed to measure more than just reading achievement. These additional areas, usually spelling, mathematics, and language, are noted in the text. A list of the names and addresses of the publishers of the instruments is provided. (Author summary modified)
