Restrictions imposed on the media by contempt-of-court rules are identified, and methods of breaching the sub judice rule are described. They relate to confessions and admissions, prejudging, urging a result, abusing the parties, previous convictions and the character of the accused, photographs, publishing court documents, and court orders. Another chapter is devoted to how the media may become involved in contempt of Parliament and legislative bodies. Statutes bearing upon media access to court proceedings and court documents are considered in the fourth chapter, followed by chapters dealing with court orders affecting publication, statutes affecting court reporting, search warrants and subpoenas, and tests for source disclosure by journalists.
