The symposium presentations and comments cover such topic as training for different categories of officers, police college admission rules, teaching methods and techniques, inservice training, training in specific areas of police work, and training for female staff.
Abstract
Police college admission criteria and course organization are outlined for the countries of Jordan, Senegal, Iraq, Nigeria, Spain, China, Thailand, and Syria. Teaching methods and techniques are briefly described for Italy, Yemen, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Senegal, El Salvador, Nigeria, Japan, China, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, and Syria. The United Kingdom delegate submitted a paper on computer-based simulation as an aid to management training, and the United States representative discussed the use of electronic data processing and audiovisual teaching techniques. The French delegate outlined the efforts of the French police to provide officers with inservice training, and inservice training efforts were also described for Jordan, Lebanon, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Senegal, Nigeria, China, and Syria. Various delegates portrayed their countries' training in the following fields: officer safety during operations; combating organized violent crime, economic and financial crime, drug traffic, and trafficking in human beings; applied psychology in police work and public relations; staff and equipment management; and ethics. Other topics considered were police college training staff, international cooperation among police colleges, and ICPO-INTERPOL surveys and documents available to police colleges. A list of the names, countries represented, and positions of the symposium participants is provided.
