This instructor's manual outlines an introductory course for gerontology students on the topic of crime against the elderly. It is intended as a companion to the course handbook, which presents basic information about crime problems affecting the elderly and those countermeasures that have proven most successful.
Abstract
The full course requires 30 hours, but the material has been divided into discrete training sessions that focus on specific portions called lesson plans, with independent objectives and structures. The instructor's guide is to be used as a resource for presenting the material in the handbook as effectively as possible. Each lesson in the instructor's guide contains a lesson outline, accompanied by a statement of the objectives; an indication of what participants will be able to do at the end of the session; and the methods, training aids and additional materials to be used in presenting the subject matter. Specific topics covered in the lesson plans include patterns of crime against the elderly, preventing residential crimes against elders, preventing consumer fraud and con games, meeting the needs of elderly crime victims, communicating with groups, and others. Photographs, tabular material, and test answers are provided.
