Preventive or community policing comprises a dominant role in the activities of the New Zealand Police. However, violent crime rose 10.4 percent in this past year.
Abstract
A total of 29 community constables operate in New Zealand, and the Neighborhood Watch program is proving to be an effective means of detecting and preventing crime in the suburbs. The report provides data on police staffing and organization, complaints and disciplinary proceedings against police numbers, special major operations, police dogs, management services, police training, telecommunications, search and rescue, and public affairs. Also noted are activities of the National Drug Intelligence Bureau, specialized squads, and the legal section. Tables are supplied.
