This 1982 report presents data on crime Index offenses, crimes cleared, persons arrested, and law enforcement personnel.
Abstract
Narrative comments are provided on the data for the offenses of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson, as well as the crime Index total. Charts show the monthly variation from the annual average as well as frequency from 1978 to 1982 for the offenses of murder, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft. Tables provide information on circumstances for offense type. Narrative comments along with charts and tables are also provided for crime Indexes cleared, persons arrested, and law enforcement employees. Employee data cover the absolute number for 1982; rate per 1,000 population; percent male and female; percent of civilian employees; and numbers in cities, universities and colleges, suburban counties, and rural counties. Appendixes present information and data on table methodology, offenses in Uniform Crime Reporting, area definitions, age-specific arrest rates by sex, Index of crime for Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas (1982), and a directory of State Uniform Crime Reporting programs.
