Sixty-four recommendations for dealing with juvenile delinquency in Oklahoma are ranked according to their level of priority and accompanied by analyses of the underlying problems.
Abstract
The recommendations resulted from 3 years of effort, with participation by over 800 people in statewide conferences. The recommendations focus on the prevention of juvenile delinquency and on ways of keeping youths out of the juvenile justice system. The problems of those who are already involved in the system are also addressed. Specific areas of analysis include the State's adjudicatory categories, detention and jails, residential care, and training and manpower. Additional topics include education, health care, substance abuse, youth employment, and the results of a statewide survey. Appendixes presenting funding comparisons between 1970 and 1979, detention criteria, and information on substance abuse are provided. Data tables, footnotes, and a bibliography listing 119 references are also provided.
