The 1982 survey conducted by the Montana Board of Crime Control sought to determine citizens' attitudes about important criminal justice system issues, to measure citizens' understanding of the Montana court system, and to determine the percentage of citizens who had been victims of crime within the past year and the level of unreported crime.
Abstract
The survey was conducted by a telephone questionnaire. Respondents considered homicide, rape, and driving under the influence as the three most serious crimes both locally and in the entire State. More than half of the respondents who have lived in the State more than 5 years believe the Montana court system is less effective today than it was 5 years ago. Results also indicated that almost 22 percent of Montanans had been victims of a crime within the past 12 months. Detailed responses to the specific questions surveyed are included. The survey instrument, tables, graphs, and a four-item bibliography are provided.
