Abstract
Characteristics of the statewide county prison inmate population on Dec. 31, 1982, revealed that 52.6 percent were white, 94.6 percent were males, and 35.8 percent were sentenced, while 64.2 percent were detentioners (unsentenced). A total of 42.2 percent were confined in Philadelphia and Allegheny Counties. Tables and graphs present statistical information about Pennsylvania county prisons and jails, including population trends, characteristics of the inmate population, admissions and releases, work release, and escapes.
