Police training in the Federal Republic of Germany is highly standardized from state to state, combines theoretical and applied studies, and begins with a recruit training program lasting between one and one-half and three years.
Abstract
Further courses must be passed before promotion. Senior officer training and specialized continuation training are carried out at a national academy. The author compares the advantages and disadvantages of this system to the decentralized combinations of police academy and college criminal justice courses found in the United States.
