Support for the local police is measured by a yes or no vote on a bond issue for a new building for the police department. Data on how people voted, their reasons for voting, demographic traits and attitudes were gathered by a survey instrument.
Abstract
Attitudinal support for police did not correlate with a yes vote. The author suggests that respondents were under cross-pressures, caught among attitudes which support the police, other ideological beliefs, and immediate self-interest. (Publisher abstract)
