Three data sets drawn from industries that hav experienced internal security breaches are analyzed.
Abstract
The industries and the insider security breaches are considered analogous in one or more respects to insider threats potentially confronting managers in the nuclear industry. The three data sets are bank fraud and embezzlement, computer-related crime, and drug theft from drug manufacturers and distributors. Based on descriptive and statistical analysis techniques, the paper reaches general conclusions on the internal threat to secure industries. These conclusions are discussed and related to the potential insider threat in the nuclear industry. Abbreviations and definitions, 49 tables, footnotes, and a list of DEA regions are included.
