The surveys described seek to identify inmate characteristics and attitudes and administrator and supervisor attitudes, and to determine the employment status of parolees. Analyses of existing industries encompass job market surveys, sales market surveys, production analyses, and analyses of potential shop profitability. Another set of surveys analyzes proposed new industries, including a microfilming service bureau, solar energy products, the metal products industry, musical instrument repair services, bakery products, and data processing. The results of an evaluation of the existing offender-based information system and recommendations for improvement of that system are also presented. A final section describes measures proposed for the evaluation of the Free Venture Model Prison Industry Program in three dimensions: institutional operations, prison industry operations, and inmate postrelease outcomes.
