The hearings focused on all aspects of organized crime, particularly in the Mafia, with special emphasis on efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking and to improve coordination among Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies.
Abstract
Also discussed were new criminal elements, including motorcycle gangs and highly organized groups of Hispanics and Southeast Asians engaging in criminal activities. Hearing documents encompass statements of committee members; the Attorney General; the Director of the FBI; directors and agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; and a number of former motorcycle gang members. Evidentiary materials submitted include the New Jersey State Police Intelligence Bureau Manual, descriptions and organizational charts of the family structure of the New Jersey Mafia and La Cosa Nostra families, maps, and the Government's memorandum of evidence in aggravation of sentence. An extensive collection of newspaper articles on the activities, arrests, and convictions of motorcycle gang members is appended.
