If terrorism's random and tragic results are to be controlled, society must battle terrorists on two fronts: develop more effective methods of deterrence and security and increase information exchanges and other forms of cooperation between governments.
Abstract
The social, political, and economic injustice that frequently serves as a breeding ground for terrorist activity poses a much greater danger to society than individual acts of terrorism. This program has three parts. Part I uses the recent kidnapping of U.S. General James Dozier by Italian terrorists to focus viewer attention on the recent proliferation of terrorist activity against Americans at home and abroad. The next section helps viewers place recent acts of terrorism in an historical perspective. The final part focuses on the problem of controlling terrorism and acquaints viewers with the complex variety of security options available to governments, international corporations, and even individuals in high-risk positions. A teacher's guide accompanies the program. For each individual parts, please see NCJ-93018-93020.
