This directory provides the names, addresses, phone numbers, types of consumer complaints handled, and settlement processes for third-party dispute resolution programs, trade and professional associations offering formal complaint handling procedures, and other sources of help when consumers are unable to receive satisfaction for a grievance after contacting the manufacturer and seller.
Abstract
The format for the presentation of the third-party dispute resolution programs contains the types of complaints investigated, the geographical area served, the third-party dispute resolution process, the cost to consumers, and a list of the sponsors. The types of businesses covered under this section of the directory are advertising, automobiles, funerals, major household items, and the moving industry. The section listing trade and professional associations offering formal complaint-handling procedures lists name, address, phone number, and a single brief statement about how the association can help consumers. Twelve associations are listed. The other sources of consumer help cited are State and local consumer protection offices, community and court sponsored programs, and Federal consumer publications on complaint handling.
