The report first defines criteria used by the FBI to classify an incident as a terrorist act. A pictorial analysis of the 1982 figures includes a chronological listing of terrorist incidents and charts breaking down incidents by group and number and type. Other tables depict incidents by target and the numbers killed and injured from 1978 to 1982. While 1982 had more death and injuries than the previous 2 years, its rates were lower than the peak year of 1979. Maps illustrate terrorist incidents by region, while the final table presents trends in activities of selected terrorist groups from 1978 through 1982. Puerto Rican terrorists were most active during each year of the 5-year period. The report's second section summarizes terrorist incidents claimed by individual groups under the following broad categories: Armenian, Croatian, Cuban, Jewish, Libyan, Puerto Rican, and other groups and individuals. Each summary gives the number of incidents claimed by a group, deaths and injuries caused, and a brief description. One suspected terrorist incident is reported for 1982.
