Various criminologists and critics have proposed reformulations of the mission of probation.
Abstract
The reformers have claimed that their proposals would result in more effective crime control, greater consideration for the victim, increased equity for the offender, and attention to the alleged demands of the public for punishment. Several key proposals are reviewed. Recent survey findings on probation officer job attitudes and on-job stress are used to outline the implications of the mission reform proposals for the probation officer. (Author abstract)
