Abstract
Authors include famous and lesser known writers imprisoned for various reasons: women's rights, religious freedom, socialist activity, murder of spouses, and theft. Several works by early Quakers are included. Entries take the form of memoirs, letters, essays, poetry, autobiography, fiction, and other genres. Each entry is accompanied by a brief description of the writer's dates and cause of imprisonment, prison location, noteworthy events or topics covered, and genre of the work.
