This report provides information about the use of official shorthand reporters and alternative reporting methods in State courts and was based on a survey sent to the office of court administration in every State.
Abstract
The principal chart contains the following data on stenographic reports by State: courts where used, whether assigned to judge or courtroom, whether organized in pool, who assigns from pool, who supervises assignments, daily supervision, employment status, hiring criteria, who supervises hiring, entry salary, basis for increase, salary increments, and who conducts evaluations. Other charts give data on basis for payament, rates, alternative systems used, who monitors such systems, and who does the transcript. A final chart presents general information on the State courts, including statutory filing limit, average filing time, and numbers of courts, judges, and stenographic reporters.
