This manual provides practical guidelines for Alaska non-state political subdivisions on providing of prison services and operating detention facilities. It is specifically oriented towards the daily operation of a small jail.
Abstract
The guide is intended to promote community security, ensure the safety of staff and offenders, and increase the efficiency of jail operation. Eight chapters address the following topics: organizing the jail; personnel management; minimum standards for non-state jail facilities; admission of prisoners; security procedures; emergency plans; records keeping; and prisoner release procedures. Two appendices provide the Alaska Administrative Code and a forms standardization reference manual.
