The laws of each State regarding driving under the influence of alcohol are compiled to facilitate a comparison on a national basis.
Abstract
The laws are presented as of January 1, 1984. One page is devoted to each State and is divided into six principal areas: requirements relating to alcohol levels to establish intoxication, permissible testing procedures to establish alcohol levels, provisions relating to suspension of driver licenses, statutory fines, applicable terms of imprisonment upon conviction, and applicable programs of rehabilitation for persons convicted of statutory violations. In addition, two tables are included. One table provides a synopsis of provisions relating to licensing and rehabilitation. The other lists the minimum age for the purchase of alcoholic beverages in the various States. (Publisher abstract modified)
