Perspectives suggesting the role of economic development, worker discontent, and organizational environments are examined for their relative impact on unionization and for their overall effect. Measures for all three perspectives produced significant, though often suprising, results. The organizational environments of states appeared to have the greatest effect on the probability of successful organizing efforts in court systems. Based on these findings, suggestions are made for further research on the importance of individual attitudes and unionization. (Publisher abstract)
