In fiscal year 1983, 1,683 claims were filed and 1,367 awards were made. A total of $5,897,048 was awarded to victims, for a average of $4,248 per victim. Court of claims administrative costs were $218,096, down from the fiscal 1982 cost of $298,509. Salaries of commissioners rose from $40,237 in fiscal 1981 to $80,425 in fiscal 1982, and to $98,775 in fiscal 1983. Awards of attorneys' fees have also continued to rise over the 3-year period, for $196,692 to $269,389, to $383,820. Likewise, Attorney General costs have climbed from $758,354 to $1,036,790, to $1,315,467. From fiscal 1977 through fiscal 1983, $45,319,724 was deposited in the special victim compensation account; $38,075,469 has been withdrawn. The State Controlling Board made a one-time withdrawal of $61,422 in fiscal 1978. Other costs, such as salaries of commissioners and awards of attorney's fees, are ongoing. Appendix I lists awards and denials and specifies the amount of each award. Appendix II lists by source and amount the money that was deposited in the special account during fiscal 1982.
