Abstract
Figures and data tables cover felonious line-of-duty killings of Federal, State, and local law enforcement officers having full arrest powers. Data also address accidental deaths occurring in the line of duty. Uniform Crime Report data on assaults on local, county, and State law enforcement officers are also included. Assault data are given as well for criminal justice officials employed by the U.S. Department of the Interior, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the judicial branch, and the U.S. Postal Service. Data indicate the location of fatal firearms wounds, the type of weapon, the type and size of firearm, the distance between the victim and the offender, the time of day, the month, the day of week, the officer's type of assignment, and the disposition of known assailants. Previous years' data are also included for many topics.
