Abstract
Data reveal very little year-to-year change in total nonconvictions from 1978 to 1983. In addition, the conviction rate has changed very little, from 56.6 percent in 1978 to 55.5 percent in 1983. Sentences of probation with jail have increased by 4.1 percent, from 25.5 percent in 1978 to 29.6 percent in 1983, and sentences to State institutions have increased from 6.1 percent in 1978 to 8.7 percent in 1983. Seventeen charts provide data on the variables, such as the offense committed and the offender's sex. Sixteen tables illustrating the arrest dispositions are included.
