In 198l and 1982, 81 percent of the victims were white, and an average of only 7 percent were over 35 years old. For both years, 50 percent of the rapists were white; 35 percent were black. About 50 percent of the rapes occurred at either the victim's or rapist's home, or at a residence shared by the two. Most rapes occurred on Saturdays, followed by Fridays and Sundays. More rapes occurred in summer than in any other season. Throughout the United States, approximately 36 rapes occur per 100,000 population. In Rhode Island, the rate is 20 per 100,000; in Providence, the rate is 43 per 100,0000. Approximately 20 statistical tables and 2 illustrations are provided.
