The program had five components: public awareness, education, self-help, Operation Identification, and deterrence. The study examined the 15 neighborhoods 1 year before and 1 year after their exposure to the program. Residential burglaries had been reduced by 76.9 percent, and the results were statistically significant. Eleven of the 15 neighborhoods experienced reductions in burglaries, while 4 experienced no change. Further research within other jurisdictions is needed. It should not be assumed that a successful crime prevention program can be generalized across jurisdictional lines. All police administrators should evaluate the programs operating within their agencies. Tabular data and 10 references are supplied.
