Materials produced by the Ann Arbor Police Department (Michigan) cover police policy toward alarm systems, ordinances governing alarm systems, false alarm penalties, and police crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) surveys of commercial and multiunit developments.
Abstract
Memos detail technical specifications and permit requirements for alarms that connect with the police department's alarm board and telephone system. Form letters sent to notify alarm users of code violations and false alarms are included, as are an alarm connection permit form and texts of city codes covering alarm permits and fees. Ordinances related to parking lot lighting and minimum security devices required for all rental housing units are supplied. Other memos contain police CPTED surveys of site plans for a townhouse development; a building designed for commercial, residential, and office use; a restaurant; and a commercial building. Each memo identifies crime problems that might be encountered, city codes with which developers must comply, and recommendations to maximize security.
