This manual contains the codebook, variable description list, and description of data collection for a 1979 study of inmate victimization in State prisons.
Abstract
Personal interviews were conducted to examine such quantitative areas as prison living conditions, prison programs, prison safety, and inmates' victimization of (or by) other inmates in several types of property and bodily crimes. This data collection contains a set of attitudinal measures dealing with inmates' thoughts and perceptions. The aim was to include as a maximum 2 large male facilities (population 500 and over) and 1 small male facility (population under 500) in each of 6 regions of the United States. In each facility, a sample of 75 inmates was randomly drawn from the complete prison roster. The data comes in two formats: card-image and OSIRIS.
