Abstract
The Multnomah County jury data base contains data on 32 jury panels for July 1973-March 1976 (6,657 jurors and 1,159 trials). Information was obtained for both 6-member and 12-member juries. Each jury panel was called for approximately 1 month's service beginning late in the month and running late into the next month. Records were obtained from the Fourth Circuit Court, Multnomah County (Portland), Ore. Information collected includes trial summaries (members of the jury, their votes, the final verdict, the type of case, the name of the judge, and the amount of time taken by the jury to arrive at a decision), monthly juror panel summaries (age, occupation, and years in residence in Oregon), and self-administered juror demographic data sheets. The Multnomah Data Archive offers the possibility of methodologically sophisticated analyses: aggregate level -- demographic characteristics of jurors; contextual level -- choice behavior of each juror relative to the demographic characteristics of his/her fellow jurors; time series on individual jurors -each juror's choice behavior over the course of his/her empanelment; and type of case -- jury behavior as a function of the nature of the indictment.
